Welcome to Integra Schools, Governor Services training and development programmr for the 2017/18 academic year.

Integra is a South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) division who trade with schools, local public sector organisations, local businesses and provide services to the Council. Integra were established as a single 'Traded Services' team in 2011 when the catering, cleaning and professional support services were brought together within the Council and the large majority of schools funding was devolved to schools. Traded Services formed a key part of the Council's strategy to protect high quality support services for schools, and continues to do so having been rebranded in 2015 as Integra, the trading arm of South Gloucestershire Council.

Integra offer a suite of services including Schools Support, HR, health and safety, information management and IT. The Governor Development Service is part of the wider team of School Support offering effective, high quality education, pupil and professional support services as a key factor in raising standards and improving outcomes for all learners in South Gloucestershire.

Governance is now an integral part of school and academy leadership. Strong governance is essential to ensuring successful educational outcomes. School governors and trustees, although volunteers, play a vital strategic role in holding school leaders to account through support, challenge and driving school improvement.

Good governing boards don't just happen. If a governing board is to be effective, governors need the right knowledge, skills, understanding and behaviours. The DfE in January 2017 published 'A Competency Framework for Governance'. The Framework is designed to help governing boards identify areas of particular strength and areas in which governors may need additional training. Much of our training already takes account of the 'six features of effective governance'. For further information, please see page 10.

With an increasing national emphasis and Ofsted looking at "The effectiveness of governors in discharging their core statutory roles and how committed they are to their own development as governors in order to improve their performance", it has never been more important to keep up to date with the latest legislation, guidance and good practice. As a governor or trustee, finding time for training can sometimes be difficult, however it is essential. Training and development are key if this aim is to be realised.

Our training and development opportunities have been developed to meet the real needs of all those that govern and to enable high levels of delegate participation and interaction. Sessions are up to date, topical and provide crucial access to a wide range of subject experts and current practitioners.

We have timetabled the courses throughout the year at times when we hope they are most beneficial and accessible to you.

The training courses, networks and briefings included in this brochure are provided as part of your subscription to Integra Schools, Governor Services.

Please do make the most of the training and development opportunities available to you.  We very much look forward to meeting and working with you over the next year.

Further details of the services we provide can be found in the Welcome Pack below.

We are committed to supporting governors in the pursuit of effective governance to help to raise standards in schools.
