Under the Education Act 1996, the Local Authority has a statutory duty to ensure children and young people receive full-time, efficient education, which is suitable to their age, aptitude and ability and any special needs they may have. This can usually be achieved through high attendance at school.
South Gloucestershire Council traded Education Welfare Service supports schools to increase and sustain positive school attendance.
