Support for Ethnic Minority Achievement in Early Years Settings and Schools

Kick Start Enterprise has been commissioned by Bath and North East Somerset to support Early Years settings and Schools develop best practice for minority ethnic children and their families.


Early Years Settings

Kick Start provide:

  • Case work for any minority ethnic child causing concern. Please contact Kick Start directly to refer. Please give us the name, age, first language and family interpreter needs of the child concerned and the nature of the concern.
  • Support to settings in developing good practice to support minority ethnic children and families - following recommendation of the Early Years team. Contact the Early Years team in the first instance, but do discuss with us as well.
  • Central training as part of Early Years CPD. Book via Early Years team.

 Schools

Kick Start provide:

  • Capacity Building including
    • Audit of need, customised support plan, annual review.
    • Support and training for school leaders including policy development, monitoring of targeted pupils ,use of data and effective classroom observations in relation to BME pupils. 
    • Staff training on a range of topics including English as an Additional Language, Black Achievement, inclusive classroom practice, equalities planning, raising aspirations etc.
    • Curriculum development – Planning for Spiritual, Moral, Cultural and Social dimensions, including the experiences of BME people, tackling racism etc.
  • Case work for any minority ethnic child causing concern. Please contact Kick Start directly to refer. Please give us the name, age, first language and family interpreter needs of the child concerned and the nature of the concern.
